Special Needs Support Services in the Law Program in our college:
The College of Law at Salahaddin University-Erbil is committed to creating an inclusive, supportive, and accessible learning environment for all students, including those with special needs. The program recognizes that students may face physical, sensory, cognitive, psychological, or learning-related challenges, and provides tailored services to ensure equitable access to legal education and professional development opportunities. There are some Support Services for special needs that most of them offered by our college and other we are working on serving it to them:
1. Accessible Learning Resources
- Course materials available in accessible formats (large print, audio, digital text).
- Captioned videos and screen-reader compatible resources.
- Adapted access to moot courtrooms, libraries, and legal clinics.
2. Academic Accommodations
- Extended time for exams and assignments.
- Alternative formats for assessments (e.g., oral presentations, written reports).
- Access to note-takers, recorded lectures, and assistive technologies.
- Separate or quiet exam rooms.

3. Individualized Support Plans
- Development of Individual Support Plans (ISPs) in coordination with the university’s disability services office.
- Personalized academic support, learning strategies, and regular progress reviews.
4. Assistive Technologies will provide in future for our special needs students:
- Availability of tools such as screen readers, voice recognition software, and text-to-speech applications.
- Training on how to use assistive tools effectively for legal research, writing, and presentations.
5. College Training and Inclusive Teaching
- College administration and academic staff receive training on inclusive teaching practices and disability awareness.
- Promotion of universal design for learning (UDL) in course delivery and assessment.
6. Mental Health and Counseling Services
- Access to confidential counseling and psychological support.
- Workshops on stress management, study skills, and exam preparation tailored to law students.
7. Internship and Career Support
- Guidance and accommodations for internships, clerkships, and practical training programs.
- Career advising tailored to the needs and goals of students with disabilities.
- Support in securing workplace accommodations and preparing for the legal profession.
8. Confidentiality and Student Advocacy
- All disclosures and support plans are handled with strict confidentiality.
- Students are empowered to advocate for their needs and understand their legal rights under disability and anti-discrimination laws.
